Matthew is my guardian angel. My son Matthew, handsome, talented and bright. Matthew was a young man with many good qualities - qualities that would make any parent proud. Matthew was seventeen years old when he was violently gunned down on July 31, 2001. That date changed many lives forever.
He would not have the opportunity to enjoy his junior and senior years at Passaic County Technical Institute. He would not enjoy the college years.
Matthew was a hands on kid. He was artistic, very good at drawing. He was also good at writing poetry, his sensitive side. Matthew had dreams of having his own business as an electrician or electrical contractor. Matthew wanted to make a good living. He often spoke of traveling, to see what the world had to offer him.
Matthew was the type of person to always help out. It was befitting that I develped the Matthew Fields Scholarship Fund, and organization that will be worthy of him. Of course if Matthew were here, he wouldn't want any of this fanfare. That's how he was.
You will note that our colors are sky blue and white. Aside from blue being Matthew's favorite color, it signifies the sky - "the sky's the limit" for young adults that we provide scholarships for. Let's encourage our young people to elect education to better their lives. We will all benefit from it.
Abraham Lincoln said, "And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count, it's the life in your years."
